City Bylaws for honeybee hives
Can I keep honeybees in my yard and how many hives?
Urban beekeeping is encouraged in most of the municipalities surrounding Vancouver.
This is an effort to increase pollination of plants in residential areas, community gardens and public spaces.
It is also encouraged because it is common knowledge that all bee species are struggling in our modern environment. Most people are aware that much of our food supply is dependent on the honeybee.
Each municipality has its own bylaws with respect to beekeeping. Beekeepers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with their city bylaws. These bylaws will inform you how many hives you are able to keep on a property and how far away from the neighbour's property they can be located. Registration with the province is also encouraged.
